NNPC To List On Stock Exchange By 2028, Says Bayo Ojulari by Aderonke OniBayo Ojulari, the group chief executive officer (CEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, says the company plans to be listed on the stock exchange by 2028.Ojulari spoke at the 9th OPEC international seminar held recently in Vienna, Austria. In a video posted on the NNPC’s official X account on Friday, he said the national oil company will play a leading role in its transformation into a limited liability entity, partnering with key industry stakeholders.“With collaborations of our industry players, we will be the catalyst in the transformation of the national oil company to a limited liability company,” the NNPC CEO said.“And as I mentioned earlier, we have a roadmap to be listed by 2028.”Ojulari said the NNPC has made “considerable progress” in creating a stable and secure business environment in Nigeria.“That has been quite an undertaking, but things are looking much, much stable. And we’ll also ensure that the new NNPC provides the prudency and the leadership that is of international repute,” he added.“I will continue to learn from all of you as we reposition NNPC to be one of the global national companies that is to be reckoned with.”Ojulari credited the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) with setting the foundation for the transformation, stating that it has brought stability to Nigeria’s energy sector, solidified existing partnerships, and attracted new investments.Commenting on the newly appointed NNPC board of directors, he expressed optimism that the new leadership will harness the nation’s vast resources to build the level of success Nigeria deserves.‘WE’RE EMBARKING ON AGGRESSIVE INFRASTRUCTURE BUILDING’The NNPC chief said Nigeria is taking bold steps to tackle energy security and infrastructure challenges through aggressive investments in refineries, pipelines, and gas-based industries. He said there has been great progress in terms of enhancing and resolving the significant shortage of energy, the energy deficiency, “the whole energy security conversation”.“Nigeria and other sub-African regions are embarking on an aggressive in- country infrastructure building, refineries, pipeline connectings, as well as gas-based industries to ensure that we solve our energy deficiency problem,” Ojulari said.“Your support will be very instrumental. These opportunities also present significant investment opportunity for all of us.”The GCEO said Nigeria’s oil and gas industry policies would “dramatically” improve investment and increase oil production. He said the NNPC aims to increase the country’s oil production capacity to a minimum of 3 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2030.“We have the ambition to build the capacity for gas production to at least 12 BCF per day,” he added.“That capacity we will pursue, and of course, in collaboration and leveraging all the relationships in OPEC as we progress but the optionality to unlock these resources is what we are determined to do. We have a clear roadmap to achieve that, and we will continue to share that as we go along.”Ojulari called on global investors and industry leaders to engage with the new NNPC, and the new Nigeria, noting that the country will demonstrate its readiness for business through tangible actions rather than mere promises.https://www.thecable.ng/nnpc-to-list-on-stock-exchange-by-2028-says-bayo-ojulari/

Fuel To Engines Of Air India Plane That Crashed Cut Off Moments After Take-off. Fuel to the engines of the Air India plane that crashed last month appears to have cut off shortly after take-off, a preliminary report has found.According to the report by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), switches in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner's cockpit that controlled fuel moved to a "CUTOFF" position. It said: "Engine 1 and Engine 2 fuel cutoff switches transitioned from RUN to CUTOFF position one after another with a time gap of one second."The Engine N1 and N2 began to decrease from their take-off values as the fuel supply to the engines was cut off."There was then confusion in the cockpit. In the voice recording, one of the pilots is heard asking the other why he "cut off". The other pilot responds that he did not do so.The 15-page report did not identify which comments were made by the flight's captain and which were made by the first officer. One of the pilots made a "mayday, mayday, mayday" call just before the crash. Both pilots were experienced, with around 19,000 flying hours between them, including more than 9,000 on the 787.Flipping to cutoff almost immediately cuts the engines, and is most often used to turn the engines off once a plane has arrived at its airport gate and in certain emergency situations, such as an engine fire - though both switches together are rarely used simultaneously. The report does not indicate there was any emergency requiring an engine cutoff. It also does not give a conclusion as to how the switches moved. However, aviation expert David Learmount told Sky News "it sounds deliberate", but also noted "there are cases of pilots carrying out an incorrect action instead of what they should be doing".Mr Learmount said the only action the pilots needed to conduct at the time was retracting the plane's undercarriage, but this was not done.He added: "Was that it? These switches are nowhere near the undercarriage lever and look totally different. The fuel switches cannot be turned on or off by mistake. They have to be pulled out before selecting up (run) or down (cut off)."Similarly, Tim Atkinson, a pilot and aviation consultant, told Sky News' Gillian Joseph "there are very few situations or circumstances which would explain this"He explained: "One would be an utterly extraordinary human error, an unintentional act, and the other - I'm very sorry to noted - would be an intentional act. And that's not a suggestion or allegation, it's simply an analysis of the small amount of information that we have at hand at this moment."One of the engines was able to be restarted, but could not reverse the plane's deceleration, the report found.India's AAIB said in its report: "At this stage of investigation, there are no recommended actions to Boeing 787-8 and/or GE GEnx-1B engine operators and manufacturers."No significant bird activity was observed in the vicinity of the plane's flight path, the report said. The aircraft started to lose altitude before crossing the airport perimeter wall, it added. The plane plummeted into a busy area, killing 241 passengers and 19 others on the ground while incinerating everything around it.The only surviving passenger was Briton Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, who was sitting next to an emergency exit and, according to police, "managed to escape by jumping out the emergency door".The plane crashed and struck a medical college hostel in a residential part of Ahmedabad, with the report stating: "The aircraft was destroyed due to impact with the buildings on the ground and subsequent fire."The plane's two black boxes, which combined cockpit voice recorders and flight data recorders, were recovered in the days after the crash. They provide vital data such as altitude, airspeed and final pilot conversations, which can help narrow down the possible causes behind a crash. The AAIB's report is based on the initial findings of the probe, marking 30 days since the crash. It said the investigation is continuing. A final report is expected within a year.https://news.sky.com/story/fuel-to-engines-of-air-india-plane-cut-off-moments-before-crash-preliminary-report-finds-13395620

France Declares All Gazans Eligible For Asylum. In a landmark ruling, a French court opens the gates to refugees from Gaza, citing Israeli military actions as "persecution" - sparking applause from activists and alarm from security advocatesIn a stunning legal pivot, France’s National Court of Asylum (CNDA) has ruled that all Palestinians living in Gaza are now eligible to apply for full asylum status in France, a move with sweeping political and social implications. The decision stems from a case brought by a Palestinian woman seeking refugee status in the wake of the October 7 Hamas-led terror attacks against Israel. While France's refugee authority (OFPRA) initially rejected her claim, citing a lack of personal persecution, the court overturned that ruling. It argued that the methods of warfare employed by the Israeli military in Gaza were "serious enough to be regarded as persecution," thereby qualifying the applicant for full refugee protection under the 1951 Geneva Convention. What makes this decision historic is its precedent-setting scope: it effectively extends eligibility for asylum to all residents of Gaza, not just individuals with specific circumstances, by defining Palestinians as a persecuted group on the basis of “nationality.” This, despite France not formally recognizing Palestine as a state. According to the CNDA, Gazans meet the Convention's criteria for group-based persecution, due to their cultural, linguistic, and geographic identity. The court emphasized their connection to a people "in conflict with another state" as a factor legitimizing their refugee states. While many on the left, celebrated the ruling, critics warned that it could lead to negative consequences. Among them was Henda Ayari, a prominent secular activist and former Muslim, who voiced issue over France’s decision to accept refugees from a region where anti-Western and anti-Semitic ideologies are deeply embedded.“France is already grappling with internal instability, with growing tensions in many immigrant-heavy suburbs,” Ayari wrote on social media. “Now it opens its doors unconditionally to people from a region where terrorist groups operate openly, and where some welcomed the massacres of October 7.”Her remarks echoed broader unease about the potential national security risks posed by accepting individuals from territories governed by extremist groups like Hamas - especially when even neighboring Muslim countries have refused to accept them.Source;https://www.jfeed.com/news/france-grants-asylum-to-gazans

LP defends Shettima over retracted comment about Fubara’s suspension The Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Nenadi Usman, has criticised what she describes as attempts to intimidate Vice President Kashim Shettima into retracting recent remarks he made at the public presentation of a book by former Justice Minister, Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN). Speaking through her Senior Special Adviser on Media, Ken Asogwa, in Abuja on Saturday, Usman said that efforts to pressure the Vice President into distancing himself from his honest and constitutionally relevant comments amounted to a “disservice to Nigeria and a threat to democratic discourse.” The remarks in question were made by Shettima during the launch of Adoke’s book, “OPL 245: The Inside Story of the $1.3 Billion Oil Block”, on Thursday. At the event, Shettima had praised Adoke and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, for advising then-President Goodluck Jonathan in 2013 that he lacked the constitutional power to remove elected governors during a state of emergency. Shettima’s comment, which many interpreted as a subtle criticism of the controversial political developments in Rivers State, particularly the attempted removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara in March, was later revoked in a follow-up statement from his office, disassociating the remark from current political events. In her statement, Usman said: “It is disingenuous for the Vice President’s handlers to pretend not to know that Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution, which governs the declaration of a state of emergency, has not changed since 2013.” She added that Shettima’s original remark was a “rare moment of candour” and applauded him for drawing attention to an unconstitutional act under the current administration. “It is troubling that the Vice President has been compelled to walk back his words. If someone of Shettima’s stature, armed with constitutional immunity, cannot freely express a factual opinion without coercion, then it speaks volumes about the current human rights climate in Nigeria,” Usman said. She called on those allegedly working behind the scenes to pressure the Vice President to stop undermining the dignity of his office. “It is not only disrespectful to the man but also to the institution he represents and the Constitution he swore to uphold,” the statement read. Usman concluded by reaffirming the Labour Party’s commitment to defending democratic institutions and free expression, warning that the erosion of such principles could hasten the decline of democratic accountability in the country.
